Can I own one here
Owning one in Fayette County.
On your own land, yes
Owning a kei truck and working it on a ranch, a farm, a mine or private property does not depend on a road title. Some states still ask for a title or an off road registration.
A 25 year truck on the road
Closed to road use. Georgia will not title or register a kei truck at any age. O.C.G.A. 40-3-30(b) and 40-2-27(b) exempt a vehicle 25 years or older from the federal standards bar in their own subsection (a), but 40-3-30.1 defines a vehicle not built to the federal safety or emission standards as an unconventional motor vehicle with no age exception, and 40-3-30.1(f) says it shall not be titled or registered. The Department of Revenue applies that to kei trucks in Policy Bulletin MVD-2023-05: a truck imported under the 25 year box on the federal HS-7 cannot be titled and registered in Georgia, a title from another state is refused and titles issued in error are cancelled.
A newer governed truck
Private land only. None. MPOHVs are not titled, and no other off road title was found.
Roads and towns
Roads and towns in Fayette County.
Roads open. Every county road in Fayette County is open by state law to a side by side with a Georgia off-highway plate and Peachtree City and Tyrone open their paths and streets to golf carts, but a governed kei truck fits neither class, so here it works the farm and private land.
This rests on Georgia law. No Fayette County ordinance or resolution was read.
In town Closed
- Closed Peachtree City. Registered motorized carts run on the city's network of more than 100 miles of shared use paths. The city's registration checklist takes only a cart under 1,300 pounds, no more than 50 inches wide wheel to wheel and no faster than 20 mph, registered by an owner 18 or older, and a low speed vehicle may use the paths only if limited to 20 mph, tagged, insured and fitted with an amber strobe. A kei truck is wider, heavier and faster than any of that, and a plated multipurpose off-highway vehicle may only cross city streets. Ordinance 1253, Chapters 70 and 78, as the city's paths page names them, amended October 2025 on decal placement. The code itself was not read., read 28 October 2026
- Closed Tyrone. Golf carts with a town permit run on the multi use paths and on most streets posted 35 mph or less. A licensed driver drives, or a driver of 15 or older without a licence with a licensed adult of 18 or older in the front seat. A golf cart is not a side by side and a kei truck is neither. Code of Ordinances Chapter 36, Article III, Golf Carts and Similar Vehicles, as the town's golf cart pages name it. The code itself was not read., read 28 October 2026
County roads Open
Every road in the county road system, for a multipurpose off-highway vehicle registered and plated in Georgia, which may also cross city streets and state highways. The statute opens them in every county and no county act is needed. A county may restrict a heavily travelled road to any class of traffic under 40-6-371(a) once it is signed, and no such act was searched for in this county. A governed kei truck cannot take the plate. O.C.G.A. 40-6-362(b) as enacted by HB 121 of 2023, registration open from 1 December 2023, read 28 October 2026
State highways Closed
Closed to OHVs.

Importing a kei truck
The essentials, in short.
A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
Two lanes
A road truck must be 25 years old by its own build date. A newer truck comes in only as governed off road equipment with a certified engine.
The 25 percent duty
Every kei truck pays the 25 percent truck duty at the port, whatever its age.
The paperwork
The customs entry and the two federal declarations, DOT Form HS-7 and EPA Form 3520-1, travel with the truck to your title office.
The title
Keep every stamped paper with the truck. Your state title office asks to see them.
