About the guide.
Mini Truck Guide reads the law for Japanese mini trucks, state by state and county by county, and writes it down plainly with its sources.
This is a guide. We do not import, sell, source or broker vehicles. We are not a registered importer, customs broker or dealer.
Where trucks come from
Where people find a kei truck.
Japan's auctions
Most used kei trucks in Japan change hands at dealer auctions. An exporter with auction access bids for a buyer and sends the auction sheet and the photographs.
Dealers and private sellers
Not every good truck goes to auction. Exporters also sell from dealers' stock and private sales in Japan, by make, by chassis and by condition.
Customs and the port
The truck ships with its bill of lading, bill of sale and Japanese registration, and is entered at the port with the safety and emissions declarations and the 25 percent truck duty.
How the guide is written
Three things it never skips.
The record first
Every truck page says to get the chassis number, the manufacture date and a full set of photographs from a seller before any money changes hands.
The law as written
Every state page comes from the statute and the motor vehicle office's own pages, with the date it was read and a link to each source.
Plain answers
