Texas titles and registers kei trucks for the road.
Texas titles and registers a kei vehicle that complies with federal law as a motor vehicle. Once titled and registered it may use any public highway where it can operate in compliance with the traffic laws.
The law is Tex. Transp. Code 501.009, 502.001(21-a), 502.006 and 545.429 (SB 1816, 89th Legislature, signed and effective 20 June 2025).
Bexar County joins the Texas emissions counties. Gasoline vehicles 2 to 24 years old registered there will need an emissions test before registration. (1 November 2026)
