Mitsubishi's car history: a full model change in January 1991, the first in six years, under the theme Raku plus Quality, the truck as the work easier truck. For the 1990 size the cab grew 90 mm and the wheelbase 50 mm, the bed floor came lower and an automatic bed lowering device dropped the bed 80 mm for loading. Hydraulic power steering, a class first. The new part time 4WD with automatic free wheeling could be engaged on the move. ja.wikipedia adds: the 3G83 657 cc SOHC 12 valve three cylinder with a single carburettor on all but the 10 inch wheel trucks, 12 inch front disc brakes, wheelbase 1,830 mm, 4MT, 5MT and 3AT. Mitsubishi's recall list shows V-U42T built from 19 December 1990 and V-U41T from 17 January 1991.
January 1992Partial improvement To confirmBetter waterproofing of the electrics.
January 1993Partial improvement To confirmEvery version moved to the 5MT except those on 10 inch wheels.
February 1994Minor change To confirmThe first minor change: SAE square twin headlamps; the trip meter dropped from the top TL truck so every truck has an odometer only.
January 1996Minor change To confirmThe second minor change: a two spoke wheel from the Minica, Bravo style halogen headlamps (not the panel van), the 3G83 SOHC 12 valve with ECI-MULTI fuel injection on the top grades, a waterproof under cover on every 4WD truck.
May 1996Special edition To confirmVX V30 Special Edition for the Minicab's thirtieth year: folding wide chrome mirrors and engine speed sensing hydraulic power steering.
December 1997Partial improvement To confirmECI-MULTI injection and the shaped headlamps on every truck except the dump and panel van; every 2WD on 12 inch wheels with front discs.
February 1998Variant added To confirmA lowest price V grade on 2WD with 12 inch wheels and front discs, but a carburetted SOHC 6 valve engine, a 4MT and SAE square headlamps.
December 1998End of production To confirm
Body notes
- Type prefix V-U41T and V-U42T, with V-U41TP and V-U42TP on Mitsubishi's recall lists; what the P suffix marks was not read.
- Engine history as ja.wikipedia tells it: a carburetted 12 valve at launch, ECI-MULTI injection on the top grades from January 1996 and on most trucks from December 1997 and a carburetted 6 valve on the 1998 V grade. engines.json leaves the output unread; so does this file.
- A truck built after December 1997 most likely has fuel injection and, on 2WD, front discs; one built before January 1996 has a carburettor.
- All 25 years old on 28 October 2026, including those built in 1999.
The 25 year lane
In the road lane today.
Earliest units of this chassis turn 25 in this month, counted from production.from. Each truck's own date of manufacture decides, to the day, under 49 USC 30112(b)(9).
The last units turn 25December 2023
The newer lane
EPA certificates.
3G83Named 2010 to 2026
An injected family listing the Minicab U42T and U62T and the Clipper U72T, governed to 25 mph, model years 2010 to 2026. A carburetted one ran 2010 to 2016.
A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
