The Sambar Truck TT1 runs the EN07 or EN07 supercharged engine, 658 cc, naturally aspirated or supercharged with fuel injection.
Subaru prints 48 PS at 6,400 rpm for the EN07, about 35 kW and 47 hp.
It was offered with a five speed manual, five speed manual with an extra low gear or three speed electronic automatic, in 2WD, selectable 4WD and full time 4WD.

Full model change announced 28 January 1999, on sale 10 February 1999, truck, van and Dias together. The only full cab layout kept in the new size while rivals went semi cab, on a chassis frame with Subaru's new ring shaped reinforcement and a new Y shaped front frame, so the bed is the full 1,940 mm across its width (the longest in class) and 1,410 mm wide; galvanised steel on the bed. The engine stays behind the rear wheels (RR), the only kei truck or cab van to do so, with a new four wheel independent suspension and the turning radius kept at 3.9 m. The four cylinder improved: every naturally aspirated engine moved from a carburettor to EGI fuel injection and the supercharged engine got a new supercharger; distributorless ignition. A new electronically controlled 3AT (E-3AT) with a column shift and a walk through cab on automatics. Driver airbag on every truck, load limiter belts, a collapsible column, four channel ABS as an option on more types. Truck types TB and TC on 2WD (5MT or E-3AT), TB, TC and TC Supercharger on S.4WD (EL+5MT) and on F.4WD (E-3AT); a high roof panel van on the truck. Front ventilated discs improved and rear drums enlarged.
August 1999Variant addedSambar Truck LPG, released 23 August 1999, on the TC 2WD 5MT: LP gas and petrol dual fuel with EGI, the gas bottle stowed under the bed thanks to the RR layout, starts on petrol and switches over.

Released 4 September 2002, the first facelift. A new grille carrying the six star Pleiades emblem, a new front bumper and front panel, multi reflector headlamps, every colour new. Blue meters with larger figures, tricot seat fabric in place of vinyl on trucks, an AM/FM cassette on TC and TC Supercharger, a tailgate that stows its chain. The supercharged truck met the 2002 emissions rules, so every petrol Sambar became a low emission car.
July 2003Variant addedFreezer series improved and an underfloor medium temperature freezer added, released 1 July 2003: the cooling unit in the low floor space behind the axle, about 25 percent more box space.

- Faces: February 1999 to August 2002 with the SAMBAR grille (clear front lamp lenses from August 2001), September 2002 to October 2005 with the six star grille and multi reflector lamps, November 2005 to August 2009 with the second new bumper and grille, September 2009 to February 2012 with the grille less front.
- 4WD: S.4WD on manuals is a selectable part time 4WD with the extra low (EL) gear; F.4WD on automatics is full time. Every 4WD trim was offered both ways at launch.
- Engines: EN07 658 cc SOHC four. Naturally aspirated EGI at launch, MPI from August 2001 (48 PS per ja.wikipedia and engines.json's catalog row); supercharged, 58 PS per ja.wikipedia. The supercharged truck was the only forced induction kei truck at the end of its life (ja.wikipedia).
- Akabou and JA: the Akabou courier cooperative's trucks are a separately certified heavy duty version; the TC Professional from November 2003 is the JA farm cooperative's specification.
- Codes TT1 and TT2 are from catalogs and ja.wikipedia; Subaru's releases do not print them.

A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
