The front wheels moved as far forward as they would go, ahead of the seats, and the engine stayed between the axles: wheelbase 2,420 mm, 520 mm longer than before and the longest in the class, with a low floor and a low centre of gravity. Bed floor 660 mm off the ground, galvanised bed with three coat paint. The E07Z HYPER 12 valve with PGM-FI fuel injection, 46 PS at 5,500 rpm and 6.0 kgm at 5,000 rpm net, a 100,000 km iridium plug, distributorless ignition and Honda LEV emissions. A new de Dion leaf rigid rear suspension and 8PR tyres. Real time 4WD on every type but the STD; the ATTACK has a diff lock. Electric power steering standard except the STD. Honda's G-Control body built for 55 km/h full frontal and 64 km/h offset crashes, a pedestrian injury reducing front, a driver airbag on every type and a passenger airbag and ABS with brake assist as factory options (not the STD), clutch start on manuals. Ten fifteen mode 17.0 km/L on the SDX 2WD MT. A full range of special bodies at launch.

On sale 20 December 2000. A new front bumper and grille. The bed lengthened 70 mm from 1,870 to 1,940 mm, a new shape guard frame and more rope hooks. Suspension retuned for balance when loaded, 145R12-6PR LT tyres (the 8PR still fits). Better heater and defroster. On the TOWN a chrome grille garnish, white full wheel caps and new fabric. A 350 kg Lifter V alongside the 250 kg one.

On sale 25 April 2003 (special bodies 16 May). Certified ultra low emissions on every type. Body colour mirrors and door handles, a metallic centre panel and new seat fabric on the TOWN. Honda's archive gives the type as GBD-HA6 and GBD-HA7 and the grades TOWN, SDX, SDX-N, STD, ATTACK and ATTACK-N.

Body notes
- The one Acty Truck with the long wheelbase. To the eye the front wheels sit under the door, not under the seat, and the nose is longer than a full cab Carry or Hijet.
- Two faces: May 1999 to November 2000 with the first bumper and grille and the 1,870 mm bed; from December 2000 the new bumper and grille and the 1,940 mm bed. A truck built before December 2000 has the shorter bed.

No mini truck family of this engine or its size appears in EPA certificate data in any model year.
A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
