Questions

Asked about Cache Valley.

Can I drive a kei truck on the road in Cache Valley?

Utah registers kei class trucks as novel vehicles and a novel vehicle equipped to the street-legal standard may run on Utah roads at up to 50 miles per hour, never on an interstate. Idaho will not register a vehicle its maker did not certify to federal motor vehicle safety standards, so a kei truck takes no ordinary plate. ITD classes a vehicle of that size that is not FMVSS certified as a UTV, which takes a restricted plate for the roads Idaho opens to off-highway vehicles. Each state page gives the full rule.

What work suits a kei truck in Cache Valley?

Barn, feed and field work and winter chores. Utah also lets a farm truck travel beside the road between the owner's agricultural parcels as an implement of husbandry.

What about a newer truck governed to 25 mph?

It enters the country as off road equipment, governed to 25 mph. In Utah it works private land and farms. In Idaho it works off highway, roads on state and federal land, highways that are not state or interstate highways, some state highways near towns, crossings, farms and private land. Each state page has the rest of the rule.
