What changed

2 dates, launch to last.

Each date is Suzuki's announcement or sale month, never a build date. Open one for the whole entry and its source.

  1. September 2001LaunchPartial improvement released 4 September 2001.

Partial improvement released 4 September 2001. Every Carry got the K6A all aluminium DOHC engine, which met the 2002 commercial emissions rules early and earned the 優-低排出ガス (★★) rating, making the Carry the first kei truck under Japan's green tax scheme. Rust proof steel on both doors and a seamless one piece galvanized bed floor, rust protection on about 90 percent of the body surface. Minimum turning radius cut from 4.1 m to 3.8 m. A new instrument panel with storage within reach and dial type climate controls. A bed step. A Nouhan Selection on the KU with a diff lock, a ramp hook rear gate, a rear gate chain, an upper member guard, a reversing buzzer and a bed work lamp.

Body notes

  • About eight months of production, the rarest Carry of this generation and the first K6A Carry.
  • Outwardly it is the late DA52T with a K6A. The 2001 instrument panel and dial climate controls are the quick tell from the cab; the engine plate settles it.
  • Turns 25 from September 2026. On 28 October 2026 only trucks built from 4 September 2001 to 28 October 2001 are in the 25 year lane.
  • A kurumaerabi listing shows one LE-DA62T row dated February 2001 for the KU Special. Suzuki's February 2001 release says nothing about an engine change, so that row is treated as a catalog artefact.

The 25 year lane

In the road lane today.

Earliest units of this chassis turn 25 in this month, counted from production.from. Each truck's own date of manufacture decides, to the day, under 49 USC 30112(b)(9).

The last units turn 25April 2027

The newer lane

EPA certificates.

K6ANamed 2010 to 2026

The most certified kei engine. Three families named K6A for model year 2010 list the Carry DA62T, DA63T and DA65T, the Every DA64V and the Scrum DG63T and DG64V. Two are still certified for 2026.

A truck under 25 can come in only as governed off road equipment, and only if its engine family held an EPA nonroad certificate for that model year. No kei engine family was certified for mini trucks before model year 2010, so a truck built after 31 October 2001 and before model year 2010 has no federal door until its 25th birthday.
